SUBJECT: Food Service Meal Charge Policy
MEAL CHARGE POLICY
The Newark Valley Central School District Board of Education recognizes that, on occasion, parents may forget to fund their child's account. To ensure that students do not go hungry, the Board will allow students who forget money to "charge" the cost of the meals to be paid back at a later date.
A student will be allowed to "charge" lunch, with the cost of these lunches added to their account bal ance. During and after these lunch charges, the Food Service department will contact the parent/guardian to inform of these charges and request payment. The balance will need to be paid back as soon as possible. While the District recognizes that there are circumstances that may prevent an immediate repayment, it will make every effort to reclaim these funds in a timely manner. The District further recognizes that this is an issue to be resolved between the Food Service department and the person in parental relationship, not the dependent child.
There will be no charging of "extra" items or ala carte (snack) items.
There will be no adult charging (employees, volunteers, or visitors) of school meals.
The school district will provide notice to all parents on an annual basis prior to the opening day of school, outlining the requirements of this regulation. The regulation shall also be published in an appropriate school-based publication.
